A huge congratulations to our Year 8 boys football team who reached the final of the SSFA County Shield following a confident 6-2 win away to Thomas Bennett Community College, Crawley.

The lads started strong and built on what we had discussed in previous weeks, moving the ball quickly and creating space although not quite being able to get a shot away. TBCC scored first after a good free kick from a 50/50 decision just outside the box. A goal very much against the run of play. With spirits still high, Archer scored in reply almost immediately.  Once again, the team settled in a controlled the game for the vast majority of the first half until their striker latched onto a loose ball and did not waste his rare opportunity. We entered the break at 2-2 after captain Jake equalised.

The calm and collected performance continued after a very mature half time discussion, not worried about the score and confident in their ability we continued to bide our time, move the ball around and create space with Eron and Jack O playing the ball out from defence with composure, Jake working hard to pop up in whatever space he could find. The hard work paid off as the opposition started to fatigue and the goals began to flow from both open play and the set piece, Charlie and Fred both scoring from opposite wings and Jake scoring a further two too complete his hat-trick.

It was an incredibly clinical performance from the team who have grown in strength game by game and reach their second final of the season. Despite stand out performance throughout, MOTM goes to William R who was a work horse in midfield all game, cleaning up loose ball, putting pressure on the opposition and looking to attack whenever possible.
