3G Pitch Project

3G Pitch Project – Chailey School

Working Together with Our Community

Chailey School is exploring the development of a full-size, FA-approved 3G pitch to support our students and provide a high-quality sports facility for the wider community.

The pitch would be used during the school day by Chailey School students and, with a view to the outside of school hours, being used by local clubs and groups including  youth football teams, some girls’ teams & inclusive and disability football sessions, and we will be open for other community groups and residents too.

We recognise that the school sits within a dark skies area, and we are committed to carefully considering and responding to the impact on our neighbours.

Key facts - this is what we would like to have:

  • FA-approved 3G pitch – 97m x 51m
  • Located on the Chailey School site
  • Community use evenings and weekends
  • Floodlighting proposed, with controls and restrictions
  • Strong focus on minimising environmental and local impact
  • Operating hours currently under review

(Site plans and visuals will be shared as soon as they are available.)

You said, we did

We have listened carefully to the feedback shared at meetings and in conversations with residents, and we are taking action:

  • Concerns about light in a dark skies area
→ We have committed to switching off floodlights overnight and are exploring further ways to minimise light spill
  • Concerns about increased activity and disturbance
→ Reviewing usage schedules and access arrangements to reduce impact on nearby homes
  • Requests for genuine community involvement
→ Creating clear opportunities to share views and ensuring all feedback is reviewed
  • Questions about environmental impact
→ Commissioning biodiversity, lighting and noise assessments to guide decisions

Evidence & Reports

We are working with independent specialists to ensure all decisions are evidence-based. Reports will be published here as they become available:

  • Noise Assessment (pending)
  • Lighting Design & Impact Report
  • Biodiversity Survey (draft / emerging findings will be shared)
  • Additional supporting documents

Updates & Project News

We are committed to keeping this page up to date:

  • June: What we heard at the community meeting
  • Next steps: Upcoming surveys and assessments on site
  • Further updates will be added regularly as the project progresses

Our Commitment

We want this to be a transparent and collaborative process. That means:

  • Acknowledging concerns openly
  • Showing where feedback has influenced change
  • Keeping communication ongoing
  • Providing a clear record of progress and decisions

Our aim is not just to build a facility, but to ensure it works for both the school and the wider Chailey community.
