Today, 120 of our Year 8 students took part in Take Your Child to Work Day, an exciting opportunity for them to step outside the classroom and experience the world of work through the eyes of a parent or carer. This event tied perfectly into National Careers Week, which celebrates and promotes high‑quality careers education across the country.
Throughout the day, students visited a wide range of workplaces—from offices and shops to workshops, farms, schools, and creative industries. They were able to see real tasks being carried out, ask questions, observe teamwork, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills adults use every day. For many, it was a first look at the kinds of jobs they might consider in the future.
Offering meaningful careers experiences in Key Stage 3 is incredibly important. Early exposure to different workplaces helps young people develop confidence, broaden their aspirations, and make informed choices as they move towards GCSE options and post‑16 pathways. Experiences like Take Your Child to Work Day play a valuable role in opening students’ eyes to new industries and helping them understand the relevance of their learning in school.
We are grateful to all the families and employers who welcomed our students and made the day such a positive and inspiring experience.
