We were delighted to see the artwork and photography displayed in the Towner exhibition space, BN9 in Marine Workshops, Newhaven on Thursday. Nearly 30 students were able to attend the awards ceremony; the exhibition was packed with the sheltered housing residents including the two artists we worked with, John and Sarah, parents, students, town councillors and Homes First staff. The students were exceptionally well behaved, and were a credit to Chailey school; Homes First staff and residents made a point of telling me how impressed they were by our students' work and their passion when talking about their work.
I felt emotional when the artists talked about how much confidence it had given them by taking part in the project, and how impressed they were with the standard of the students' work. It was great that Mr Holt could give out one of the prizes and see the outcomes of the project first hand. Congratulations to all the students that took part; the prize winners were Ayla for favourite artwork, Noah for favourite photograph, Leo for piece with the moist public votes and Amber for artists' choice. Thank you to Mr Holt for supporting the Art department to enable us to run the project, and Nikki Richardson from Homes First for inviting Chailey school to be part of this wonderful project.
The students art and photography will now be photographed, and prints will be displayed all around East Sussex Sheltered Housing properties to brighten up the corridors. Well done Year 11 Artists and Photographers!
