On Tuesday, 80 of our Year 9 students attended The Big Futures Show at the Eastbourne Sports Park.
The BIG Futures Show is the largest employability, skills, and jobs event in East Sussex. The Show is aimed at students (aged 14+) from across East Sussex, parents, and anyone looking for work or training.
With over 75 exhibitors and a dedicated job seekers area with live job and training opportunities, our students had the chance to experience an interactive and inspiring show, meeting with employers, colleges, and apprenticeship providers as well as taste some delicious cookies, pick up some goodies and information to take home.
Our Year 9s were well behaved, polite, and a credit to Chailey School. They interacted with the staff on the exhibition stands, taking part in competitions, challenges, and joined in with the hands-on activities on offer, such as tiling, plastering, hair braiding, testing machinery and much more. They also had the chance to learn about the different courses that our local colleges offer, meet apprenticeship providers and employers.
The purpose of the visit is to encourage students to link their curriculum subjects to real world jobs, to help them to understand what college courses or apprenticeship routes are available to them and for them to have a chance to build social, listening and other transferrable skills that they will require in the world of work.
The trip is a regular event in our Careers calendar and we look forward to attending again next year.
We also have access to the amazing careers resource that is Unifrog. We would encourage all students and their families to make the most of this fabulous website at www.unifrog.org - please email me if you have any questions about anything relating to the Chailey School careers programme.
