Welcome to Chailey School

A child’s experience at school plays a crucial part in shaping the adult he or she will become.  Choosing a secondary school is a key decision for any parent or carer.

This is a responsibility that everyone at Chailey School takes seriously.  It is reflected in our school motto:  ‘Committed to the success of each student’ and is demonstrated in our day-to-day work with, and for, our students.

Our students travel on school transport from a wide area – attracted by the care and support of a small school with high achievement and excellent opportunities.

From the time our young people join Chailey until the day they leave; they can be certain that their talents, abilities and needs form the focus of what we do.  The School exists for the students – it is their future that staff, parents and governors invest in.

Chailey School is a learning community – for our students and our staff.  Our vision is of:  ‘every young person and every adult in our school achieving more than they ever thought possible’.

We place a strong emphasis on staff and students working together, both in and out of the classroom.  Staff at Chailey go the extra mile to make the difference between success and failure.

Mrs Lesley Young

We believe that these relationships lie at the root of the education we offer: it is our core purpose to prepare every child – academically and socially – for the world beyond school.

Traditional values - courtesy, respect, a smart appearance, tolerance, consideration and self-discipline - underpin the life of our school.  We have high expectations of students in both their work and behaviour.  In this respect, as in others, the partnership between the school, parents, carers and our excellent governing body is all-important.

We know that our students are the future.  We seek to broaden their horizons by offering them a variety of opportunities and experiences.  We want our young people to be curious and adventurous; interested in, and excited by, what lies beyond our shores.

We are very proud of our students and our school.  The pages that follow will give you a snapshot of life in our community, of the wealth of experiences that students enjoy.

I hope they will also give you a flavour of what visitors to our school discover, and encourage you to come and see us at work.

I look forward to meeting you.
